Greetings Friartown! Hell of a run we are on right now. The chaos of this weekend has been a sight to behold and I’ve been boots on the ground since Wednesday evening. Officially ending Ed Cooley’s season to start this run off was a fantastic way to begin the Big East Tournament and while I loved how the Friars matched up against Creighton (they have no bench, entire offense is centered around 2 people, etc.) I won’t lie and say I expected the Friars to pull it out.
There’ll be plenty of time to get to the NCAA Tournament implications (Friars are probably in right now, but other bubble teams are still playing for their lives as well) but for now I’m solely focused on this team winning the Big East Tournament. For Kim English to hang a banner in first inaugural season would be quite the feat, and it’s a very real possibility! Tyler Kolek will not play for Marquette this evening as he tries to come back from an oblique injury, and if Providence can knock of Marquette in front of what is sure to be a pretty friendly crowd, anything is possible on Saturday night. To that end, let’s bang out a quick winners and losers from the first 48 hours of the Big East Tournament.
Winners:
Jayden Pierre
In the biggest game of his career Pierre played his best game in a Providence uniform. In 35 minutes against Creighton Pierre had 15 points, 7 assists,4 rebounds and crucially 0 turnovers. He hit the biggest shot of the game to stem the Bluejays run after it seemed like Trey Alexander was destined to rip the hearts of the Friar Faithful straight out of their chests.
Regardless of what happens tonight, the future of the Program is in good hands with Jayden Pierre as the Friars point guard.
