Recruiting Spotlight: Jaylen Harrell
Can Kim English add more to Providence's historic 2025 recruiting class?

For as long as I’ve been associated with Providence College, as a student and then an alumni, there’s been a bit of a rivalry between New York Friars and Boston Friars. It’s as straightforward as it sounds, Friars debating which city, sports teams and general geographies are superior. If you give the Fairfield country to New York, and the rest of Connecticut and Rhode Island to Boston, those debates can get pretty heated! Personally I’m a New York Friars by birth, but recent live events have led me to temporarily call Boston home. While I can’t say that I’m in love with Boston (or its sports teams), one of the benefits of moving north is that it’s allowed me to take in the high school basketball games of some of Providence’s priority recruits. Oswin Erhunmwunse, Ryan Mela and #1 overall recruit in the class of 2025 AJ Dybantsa are just a few of the local talents I’ve seen play, but for today’s purposes we’re going to focus on Jaylen Harrell, the Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year, and #101 recruit in the class of 2025, who plays his high school ball at Cambridge Arts, Technology and Science Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts and will commit to one of his final 6 schools on Tuesday, May 28th.
Kim English and the Friars have once again found their way into the final list of a top 100 recruit in the class of 2025. After consensus top 30 recruit Jamier Jones committed to the Friars last week, Jones gave an interview with Sam Lance of Zags Blog where he outlined who else he might be recruiting to Friartown. “I’m trying to get [Jaylen Harrell and Jalen Reece] to commit to Providence,” Jones said, “Let’s do it.”
Harrell took an official visit to both Providence and Rutgers during the second half of the season, and when I look at his recruitment I see 4 macro-level points that are worth highlighting 10 days before Harrell decides where to play his college ball.
